When systemic fungal infection occurs, mannan and its metabolic components persist in the host body fluid stimulate the host humoral immune response to produce specific antibodies against mannan.

Combination test of Candida IgG and IgM antibody is one of the most accurate way to check candida infection. The IgM antibodies can help identify if the patient has an active infection. The IgG antibodies will show the presence of a past or ongoing infection. Especially when measured in a quantitative way, it can help to check the effect of treatment therapy by monitoring the antibody quantity in human serum.
